P1620813 - The Isle of Festival (modern version) www.isleofwightfestival.com/ now has some 70,000 attendee's this is a drive by view of the mixture of ages and techniques to keep the rain out, he rain got the better of the camera
The original Isle of Wight Pop festival attracted (1960-1970's) one million visitors apparently, not bad for an Island the size of Manhattan normal population 128,000 compared to Manhattan 4 million residents and 8 million during the working day!
The festival with it's potential 80,000 plus visitors does not bring that much revenue to the Island directly. The festival is a self contained site, with very few local trades people, The bus company and ferries are owned by off Island companies. The only local company Hovertravel retain fares on the Island, local traders do not see a huge change in turnover, so many borrow front gardens along the route to the supermarkets to extract some money from the visitors
