Pleasant Valley Sunday - Happy Sunny day

P1210771 - Way down south we have sun :-)

The story as far as I know it
Basically they are circling over the house at the back of ours, waiting to grab some bread or whatever the people put out. Only seems suitable for Gulls, Crows and Blackbirds.

The Gulls don't like the Crows that's for sure, the Blackbirds don't really seem to care about anything, but there was one hell of a racket going on behind the workshop. So I have no idea what was going on.

Funny this morning they seem to have some holding circle they had to follow until it was your turn to grab something. So the top one is in a holding pattern coming off the roof and the other one has been called down by the control tower :-)

The Blackbird sit on the steeple observing until they are ready, then dive bomb the garden, when about 2-3 come down the Gulls coming shooting up.

The Dark Shadow

P1210862 - Today's assignment : #ds 441

Make a photograph using hard light today. Feature the crisp and strong shadows as a major element of your photograph.

The train used to be at platform 3 (Cinematic cut - well as close as I could get)

P1190248 - rework - Old enough to remember boarding a steam pull train with slam doors from platform 3. The view is of Ryde from the pier head (or the wet end) with the two spires (Holy Trinity on the left and the Parish church on the right)

Ok so you have seen the shot previously, apologies for showing it again, but one of my contacts suggested some cutting and a bit of treatment to it, so I thought it was worth posting to see other peoples thoughts. Unusual fro me to alter images, but this was almost B&W in the first place, and the rest is a cut and twiddle in Picasa 3 to enhance the railings on the right

Can't quite see from here, what's it like then..........(light box)

P1210357 - Because of flooding on or normal route around the woods, the boys and I took a little detour and came across this guy, tucked under an old stump doing his best to keep out the cutting wind.
Sorry about the poor light, but late in the afternoon 16:31 when we got to this spot.

Hypholoma Fasciculare Sulphur Tuft

Probably the last mushroom shot for a few weeks off commuting and a heavy work load at the moment

Fallen, but just still hanging on

P1210336 - Follow on from the last posting, this is the last one having a lie down some 51 days after first capturing on camera 11th Dec 2010.

Pepper and friends

Pepper and friends

P1210480 - Today's theme is red. Red hot? Red paint? Or something else?

White paper light box, kitchen light, pepper and few tomato's

Swan Lake abstract

P1200996 - Thought nip down and try some night time shots of the swan's. Pretty windy so the car was bouncing around. As usual the birds escaped my lens in reasonable form, but thought this might appeal to some.

Yes straight from the camera, - a crop and horizontal flip was voted for

Icing figured out

P1200799 - Make a photograph today with a central point of interest in it.

Cakes and a figurine and what is the central point of interest. I'll leave that to each viewer as I think there are many depending on your view point mine was the icing.

Icing figurines where created to decorate banqueting tables in northern Europe, quite often telling a story as the table centrepiece, battles won and so on. Once Meissen had developed porcelain the ability to replicate the whiteness of the icing the table centre pieces changed to the porcelain figures. There is a whole book on this stuff somewhere. In the meantime potters in the UK also made figures of news stories which were also so used by the middle classes to show they are up with the current trends etc. (That's a quick summary of about 100 years in the pottery and porcelain history).

Enjoy your cake as you eat it

Rocking Rusty and Valve tapping eight

P1200240 - This is an old land Rover which has been in the woods for well over 20 years. It has an old BMC 'B' series petrol engine either 1.8 or 2.2 litres, majority of the body work has long gone, but some parts still remain. How it got here who knows, there is a similar question for an old Post ofice Morris Minor at the top end, which the rabits have found very useful (another day perhaps).

The inlet and exhaust valve springs, slowly, very slowly corroding away, don't make em like they use to.

Been really busy the last few days, so no time to find a new shot for the daily shoot, so here's another from the weekend Land Rover series.

Make a photograph today that illustrates attraction. Pick whatever definition of the word you'd like.
So the attraction is a reaction Fe2O3·nH2O or (FeO(OH), Fe(OH)3)
Given sufficient time, oxygen, and water, any iron mass will eventually convert entirely to rust and disintegrate. Surface rust provides no protection to the underlying iron

So my attraction is a reaction or a drawing of air and water to iron forming the attraction.

Ryde from off the pier

P1190217 - Sorry about the exposure on this.
This is Ryde a view from the sea, the pier (in fact it's three piers) currently one on the right is being completely rebuild.
Total length: 681 metres or 2,234 ft, which is one pretty nasty walk when it is blowing a gale force 8-10 and it's raining.
The pier originally had an entertainment hall (knocked down many years ago) just to the right of the main building and similar looking structure has now been built as a coffee house to the left of the main building but hidden by the loading ramp.
The two cranes now decommissioned were installed around 1924 and were used to load and unload cargo from the passenger ferries.

Ivy Tapper and the Rusty Rocker's

P1200242 - This is an old land Rover which has been in the woods for well over 20 years.

Piece of ivy reclaiming the rocker arms on the engine block

Large fern

P1200185 -Celebrate the pretty things in life. Make a photograph of the most beautiful thing you see today. Had a problem with the wording here and decided to use the camera as the most beautiful thing I see through the lens, which comes about fifth in the most beautiful thing I saw to day.

Stripe this, stripe that

P1200161 - Today's assignment : #ds433

Make a photo that features stripes of some sort today.

Bit of a DIY day

Contrails/Chemtrails - writing in the sky - mini series

Contrails/Chemtrails - writing in the sky - mini series

P1200138 - This set/series is to display how contrails (some call them chemtrails) may form

I took a really nice shot of some radiating clouds (well I thought that is what it was) to find out the had been formed by contrails (jet streams) which form into a collection of different layers.

You may already be aware of this, but thought it might be interesting to share. As always comments, corrections and responses welcome.

At some point you may want to watch the time lapse video www.youtube.com/watch?v=WabzHXBJTHg

The Mono Chromatic's - with - Closer - the A side

P1200146 - Take color out of the equation and make a monochromatic photograph today.
#ds432

Ok So done one that may not be considered a complete monochromatic, so here's another just in case the previous one had to much other colour.

The Mono Chromatic's - with - As close as I could get

Sunshine again today, that's worrying two days in a row, but still very cold

Reminder to self must clean the lens

Billowing sail or Sea Mark or Fancy Tooth pick

P1190131 - Spinnaker tower, Portsmouth, Gun wharf keys
Represents a spinnaker strangely

A nice house

P1190143 - I love this house seen it over the years. Recently refurbished (2010) , its right on the harbour mouth but protect by a fort that Henry the VIII once stood on and watched the Mary Rose capsize.

The Gosport Ferry (does what it says on the can)

P1190093 - The short is from Portsmouth Hard looking towards Gosport. This ferry runs every ten minutes or so, flat bottomed and built for rapid loading and unloading of foot passengers, it also carries motor bike and cycles. Saves a long drive up one side of the harbour (inlet) and back down again.
Portsmouth is a Naval base and has been from at least Henry VIII time, and was once a fully functional ship yard, although the fleet is depleted the Naval is still present. Gosport was the Submarine base and is now a museum.
As you can see the leisure sailing activity is become quite established. Further up the harbour is the continental ferry port and docks.

Where can I hide, where can I go

P1190788 - mast on the right is a tv transmitter, sorry but I liked it, just the way it is. Liked the sky line and the cloud formation here, mainly because it changed as the sun was setting.

Remember .........

P1190795 - Remembrance cross Ashey graveyard.

Fallen but still hanging on

P1190720 - I took some images back of the 5th December of this group of mushrooms. Still 45 days later they are in still in good shape.

Part of the theory; take nothing, leave nothing and disrupt as little as you can.

Maple thorn

P1190637 - The last leaf standing and trap by a thorn.
My next door neighbours Maple tree has done me proud on catching light, shadows, it's even held the moon for me a couple of times.

Ivy and me

P1180793 - Liked the ivy here, thought it added to the image. There was some side shots, which didn't quite work out.

So here is the daily mushroom Cantharellus tubaeformi

Long exposure day again, hoping you're seeing a difference in the depth of colour and detail, that was the plan.

Freelens x 2

Mini Nelly Dean

P1180741 - after working out how to get some water movement yesterday, throught I revisit the subject to day.

Message from Lunar Connections
Hope the new year is starting well? The “Lunar Connection” group got bit in December because of weather. Many people wanted to join in but couldn’t see the moon due to cloud cover. I’ve had a few people ask if I might try the “Simultaneous Group Photo” project again. So, I’ve decided to make this the groups main mission:

If you’re interested in giving it another try, the next time/date will be 4 AM UTC/GMT on January 20, 2011. I posted a time chart and map to help people see if they can participate and what their time will be.

I moved the time 2 hours later to hopefully put the ugliest time in the middle of the Atlantic. Those of you in Europe have the hardest photo times. The window I have is small (2’ish AM to 4’ish AM) but give me your thoughts on if you would rather have the February time closer to midnight or morning.

Group
www.flickr.com/groups/lunarconnection/ It would nice to see loads of people involved, if you can
