Letter: What's the plan for former church now in private hands?

What's the plan for former church now in private hands?
The Isle of Wight council revealed on Wednesday they have sold the former church for £75,000 to a private individual. This reader feels we should know more about what's planned for grade II listed building.

We always welcome a Letter to the Editor to share with our readers – unsurprisingly they don't always reflect the views of this publication. If you have something you'd like to share, get in touch and of course, your considered comments are welcome below. This from Peter Gruner, Ryde. Ed

Well done to the "private individual" who has purchased dear old St Thomas Church Ryde for £75,000.
But don't we locals have a right to a little more information please? It would be nice to know who the person is who is purchasing this much loved but now disused old church.
And, more importantly, how about a what they plan to do with the building?

Red Funnel reveals East Cowes terminal masterplan

Multi million masterplan for developing the East Cowes terminal.

CP EXCLUSIVE
RED FUNNEL this week exclusively revealed to the County Press its multi million masterplan for developing the East Cowes terminal.
The long-awaited scheme will be carried out in two phases starting as soon as January with demolition of the Trinity Wharf building to give 60 more car parking spaces.
They will then total 230 - or a current boat-load - and prepare the way for the sale of that part of the site for development of a 60-bed hotel, houses, apartments or mixed-use retail and light industry.

St George's Park land sale rules bent by council

TWO new supermarkets could be built next to the Asda store in Newport.
South Coast Leisure (SCL), which owns the land, has sought permission for two food retail units at the St George's Park site.
They would be built on the site currently occupied by Newport Football Club and an adjacent area of land, which SCL bought from the Isle of Wight Council for £350,000.

When the deal was agreed two years ago, it included an option for 'non-food retail' or 'light industrial' uses.
SCL has now requested a variation of the option to include two food retail units, comprising 18,800 and 11,000 square feet, respectively.
The company has previously said it intended to develop the site by building a trade and retail park.
Council cabinet member for resources, Cllr Stuart Hutchinson, has agreed to the new terms using delegated decision-making powers.

Tesco Opticians sold to Vision Express

Tesco Opticians has been sold to Vision Express. The sale will take place on 4 December 2017.From that date, Vision Express will take over the operation of the opticians practice in-store, and this will eventually be rebranded to Vision Express, which includes any data held about you.

We'll start moving all our customers' eye care records and contact information securely to Vision Express (UK) Limited. That will allow your eye care to continue in the opticians at your usual Tesco store.
We may keep a copy of your records, as required for regulatory compliance. When your next eye appointment is due, it'll be Vision Express who get in touch to remind you. If you've already booked an appointment with Tesco Opticians, that won't change: please turn up on the date and at the time that you booked it. If you've ordered glasses or contact lenses through Tesco Opticians or My Lens Plan, we'll still complete your order – so you'll either pick them up from your usual store or they'll be delivered to you.
You won't be able to collect or spend your Clubcard vouchers at Vision Express.

If you have any questions or don't want us to transfer your Tesco Opticians data to Vision Express, please give our customer service team a call on 0330 123 2416** between 5:30pm to 10:30pm from Monday to Friday, or 9:00am to 6:00pm on Sunday. Or you can write to us at Tesco Customer Service Centre, Baird Avenue, Dundee, DD1 9NF.
