LR-16220_8_16221_8_16222-PS - The population moaned and groaned when Southern water requested planning permission for a waste water treatment plant in 1993 the same year the pier was demolished. A pier (one of three) had stood on the site since the 1860's citation. The development of area to the east of the pier has included a haven/harbour and associated fishery opposite the cascade. To me the whole area is a vast improvement opening the shore side for visitors and residents alike to enjoy. Pleased the Isle of Wight padding pool is staying currently, slightly disappointed the roller rink has gone, but not sure I could still roller skate any ways :)
