AWe Some MG 818

IMG_0142_PS-1 - Went out to try the new lens and Sunday dinner, saw this in the car park and just had to pop a few shots off.
Sadly just could find an angle with just the MG, a few months ago this would have been stored for future generations. So loaded up Photoshop Elements 10 and had a play around, quite pleased with the result, probably still needs to be progressed some more, but I am only a novice.
The original is below, shame about the car behind

IMG_0195 - As the day progresses, seem to be getting the hang of the new lens. Slight problems with AF seems to be alternative focus, rather than auto at the moment, probably because I have never really used it before.

Out of the Light - Attraction or Necessity

P1850744 - Unusual to find spiders on Ferns, well in this neck of the woods, mainly ferns or fronds are not much use as they move around a lot, so building your web would be a waste of time. NOt quite the image I wanted, but it was there and had to have a pop at it.

The Old School House, but I might be wrong !

P1840935 - I was always told this was the original school house in Heathenstreet (16th Century) now Havenstreet. The small hamlet was considered to be in control of what is now Ryde, some three miles away. The ecclestical parish was formed from Arreton and Newchurch in 1853, some 22 years later the railway arrived, in 1892 the Ryde and Haven street councils joined and built a larger single room school house opposite. This were I may be wrong, in the sense that above (now converted to a dwelling) may have been something else, perhaps a chapel (but the dates are all wrong). The image below shows Havenstreet and Ryde School board 1896, four years after the building above. The Victorian era saw huge population booms, perhaps there was no statistics and another larger building was built or there was political going on's to join the two parishes together (Havenstreet and Ryde).
Ryde the now larger town did not really change from a small fishing village until the end of the 19th Century, made popular by sail powered boats collecting fresh water from Monkton Mead, this included the first fleets that sailed to Australia all 1,030 of which 753 were Convicts & their children!

The school house below was in use up to a few years ago and certainly was a single group school house with children from the legal attendance age (5) up to 11 year old. Now a community centre.

The whole education age thing has been turned inside out, the Isle of Wight Education unit has followed central governments requirements and now there are huge school units on one site. The school units are now in a two stage set 5-11, 11-16 (I think), which aligns to pre the 11 plus exam system (which was remove due to incompatibility of little people of those age groups). The logic may be based on the decline in children of school age, aligning to the post war peaks of baby boomer's, the boomer's-boomer's and now their off spring with smaller family in recent years.

The third picture in the series relates to the school used in the Havenstreet catchment area. This makes we wonder if free transport is provided. Some legal requirement to transport children to school who lived more than three away from the school. Or the flocks of urban assault vehicles containing one or two children with the yummy mummies, driving like they are in charge of a tank crushing the revolution every morning and afternoon. Most think they are driving a Hummer or something that wide or wider........ok for another day before I drift off topic.

50 Shades of Grey - Isha

This is Isha, leather moulded into a figure, watched these guys making these amazing skill once they had mastered it and when you think it comes from a flat hide, you have to be impress as they mould it by hand using water and the sun and a lump of wood.

50 Shades of Grey - The Lonely dancer

P1810742_PS - Not quite your normal candid, but love the simplicity, there is a whole back story to this, that could go on for hours. Here's the short version; saw this wonderful sunset going off as I drove up the dual carriageway, unable to stop for a number of reason, managed to pull in to a service station, not for fuel and wondered if I could get some shots of the sun set or had I missed the best bit, well I had, but came across this bit of fence, more of it later and popped a few shots.

A K DOLVEN

TITLE: Out of Tune

Location: Old Rotunda site, seafront

Born: 1953 Oslo, Norway

Lives/Works: London and Lofoten, Norway

Since the 1990s Norwegian artist A K Dolven has worked with the idea of being at odds with one’s surroundings, and more specifically, for the past three years, with disused bells. ‘Out of Tune’ continues a series of similar titles such as ‘Out of Time’, ‘Out of Balance’ and ‘Out of Season’.

Folkestone Seafront, opposite The Leas Lift, CT20 1PX Dolven’s installation features a 16th-century tenor bell from Scraptoft Church in Leicestershire, which had been removed for not being in tune with the others. It will be suspended from a steel cable strung between two 20m high steel beams, placed 30m apart. The bell can be rung by visitors using a traditional rope bell-pull.
